Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
